De-Age Yourself With Self Hypnosis
Now obviously this may look and sound like a totally ridiculous claim so allow me give you a bit of background. As I have said in previous posts, I spent many years studying hypnosis and NLP, doing course after course after course with all sorts of trainers, many with a man called Richard Bandler who co-founded the field of neuro-linguistic programming. I just fell in love with the whole experience and I did so because it was such fun and, more importantly, time after time I saw things happen that simply worked. Again and again I saw people with seemingly insurmountable problems cured.
Staying Sceptical
You would think that after a few years of witnessing such marvels I would readily believe anything I saw but that wasn’t (and still isn’t) the case.
Getting Younger With Hypnosis
So one day, having been promoted from ‘delegate’ to ‘assistant’ I was standing at the back of the room watching Richard on stage. He picked someone out of the audience, a highly stressed and worried looking middle aged woman who didn’t look as if she had smiled in years. He sat her on a stool, got her to close her eyes and began to get her to relax. He spoke to her for a few minutes, then he spoke to the audience for a few minutes and then to her again. I was kind of lost in what he was saying so it was with total shock and complete disbelief that after about twenty minutes, when I glanced again at the woman, I saw that she looked about fifteen years younger.
The Transformation Was Radical
Anyone who relaxes thoroughly is going to look less tense and more relaxed, obviously. But this was such a huge change that it was difficult to accept it was real. So I started going through the possible ‘reasons’ why this woman now looked so dramatically younger and more vibrant. My first thought was that perhaps I and the rest of the audience had been hypnotised somehow to make us believe she looked younger. Then I looked to see if they could have done something tricky with the lighting in the room. But there was no tricky lighting in the room.
But she looked just as good and youthful the next day and came in with her husband who went over to shake Richard’s hand and thank him.
‘Amazing’ I thought but for some reason I didn’t use the techniques he had used that day for several years. After all, most people who come and see me for NLP and hypnosis tend to have other things on their mind, like stopping being depressed, angry, stopping using cocaine and so forth. No-one has contacted me and said, ‘I want to look ten years younger, can you help?’
The Day I First Used The ‘Soften’ Self Hypnosis Technique
The one day, several years later, a middle aged and very stressed and anxious lady came to see me.
‘What do you want?’ I said as she sat down,
‘I want to stop feeling so terrible about myself’, she replied.
‘And what stops you stopping yourself feeling that way?’ I said.
‘Can’t you tell?’ She asked, looking surprised.
I looked at her and couldn’t for the life of me see what she was talking about. Yes, she looked stressed and worn out, but I couldn’t see anything specific.
Stressed Out Over Her Face
‘It’s my eyes’, she said, after a while, and I looked again. And, now that she mentioned it, I could see that one of her eyeballs was slightly, very slightly, bigger than the other.
It turned out that a few years before she had had a thyroid problem which had changed the size of one eye. Whilst to the average observer, and contrary to what my wife may say, I am very observant in certain circumstances, this wasn’t at all obvious, but it was very obvious to her. Every day, for four years, she had looked in the mirror and felt like shit, to use her words.
Then I remembered the de-aging hypnosis I had seen years before.
‘How Would You Like To Look Ten Years Younger Because I Can Help You To’
I said.
And, understandably, she gave me a kind of ‘sure you can’ look of disbelief and annoyance. So I got her to sit still, be quiet, and listen.
This technique involves relaxing the face in a very specific way. You may well have come across progressive relaxation techniques which involve you imagining relaxing your feet, then your legs, then your hips etc, and this is a sort of advanced version of this kind of process. Other techniques will invite you to tense certain parts of your body, really tense them up, and then really let that part go.
And both of these sorts of approaches can be effective, but not as effectively as this:
Obviously you will have to read this through a couple of times before you do it.
The Self Hypnosis De-Aging Technique,
Close your eyes and be very, very aware of your face. Move your awareness to the corner of one of your eyes and specifically imagine this corner of the eye, and the little localised area of the face around the corner of the eye, beginning to relax. In your mind’s eye, see what this area of the face would look like if it is relaxing more, and just pretend it is. And then, importantly, you imagine the word ‘soften’ being spoken very softly and very gently, and as if the source of the sound of the word ‘soften’ is that corner of the eye...
(A word on this word ‘soften’. Make sure that when you imagine this word being ‘spoken’ that you imagine it is being said in a voice that sounds utterly relaxing to you, perhaps a deep, resonant quiet voice, whatever suits you. Gently stretch the word ‘soften’ – sooofften – it’s much easier to say than write...)
Then, repeat this word, like a slow motion gentle mantra coming from the corner of the eye. Do this for about 30 seconds. Then float your awareness to the other corner of the eye, imagine what it would look like if it were relaxing more, imagine what it would feel like, and ‘hear’ the word soften coming from there.
Then simply repeat the process from the corner of the other eye, then the other corner, then the corners of your mouth, then deep inside the hinges of your jaw, then from under each eyebrow in turn, from the centre of your forehead, and from your temples. You can do the temples in stereo if you like.
Then Visualize Sunlight
Sorry if this sounds a bit new-agey, I simply use it because it works.
(p>Visualize sunlight cascading down from above, like a slow-motion waterfall, but made of light. Envision it pouring gently over your head, over your scalp and ears and eyes and nose, down the back of your head, and also inside your head, down through your brain and mouth and teeth and tongue and throat, down into your chest, and then imagine your heart smoothly distributing the light to every cell in your body, via your blood-stream. Especially imagine the light gently radiating out through the pores of your skin in your face.
Then go back and run the ‘soften’ process again. Do this at night as you lay in bed and you will start to look younger, it’s much more effective than anti-wrinkle creams. Do it every day and you WILL notice the difference.
‘Because You’re Worth It...’
The Lady With The Eye
To get back to my story about the lady with the slightly bigger eye, I ran these processes with her during that hour long hypnosis session and by the end she looked hugely different, much more relaxed, as if the weight of the years had been carried away.
When she came back the next week I did not recognize her. Literally. I was waiting on the landing outside the office and she had to walk right up to me before I realised that it was her. True, she had done her hair differently, but the previous week I would have guessed her age at about fiftyish, and now I was looking at a woman who seemed no more than forty, tops.
I Am Not A Wizard
‘Are you a wizard?’ she said, wide eyed.
‘No I am not a wizard,’ I replied, ‘I just get people to sit down in my office for a spell.’ (Sorry)
It transpired that she had seen, in the intervening week, two sets of people she hadn’t seen for years, and both sets of people had totally refused to believe that she had not had plastic surgery, and to be fair to them, I don’t blame them for being sceptical. I remembered that I had been sceptical whilst I watched this being demonstrated in front of my own eyes.
Why This Anti-Aging Relaxation Technique Works So Well
I have given some thought as to why this technique works so well and I think it is because it involves so many ‘senses’. You get so use your visual sense to imagine ‘seeing’ parts of the face relaxing, you use your feeling sense to imagine feeling each part of the face relaxing in turn, and you use your auditory sense as you imagine the word ‘soften’ coming from each location. As the face relaxes thoroughly, the blood gets to flow more freely through the little blood vessels just under the surface of the skin, bringing more oxygen and more nutrients to the cells, giving them a kind of spring-clean on the inside. And soft tissue cells replace very rapidly, some as frequently as every thirty six hours.(/p>
At least, these are the suggestions I give my clients.
Like any technique, it will only work when you practice it. The lady with the eye did this several times a day that first week. So find out for yourself and have a go, and let me know what results you get.
There are a number of really good self hypnosis relaxation recordings available, including one of my personal favourites, Self Healing With Hypnosis, by the late great Duncan McColl.
If you have any good techniques of your own then I would love to hear from you so please feel free to post them to this blog.
Thanks
